THE STATE OF SMARTCARDS
This article describes the potential for contactless smart cards and discusses the major technological obstacles that must be overcome in order to make smart cards a commercial success. It first reviews passive and active smart cards and how their applications. It then discusses smart card technology, focusing on its radio frequency power source, modulation types, and standards.
