A FORECAST FOR SAILING SHIPS

The increase in fuel prices has spurred reevaluations of the economic feasibility of wind-powered vessels. The article traces the decline of commercial sailing ships and the developments that have brought sail today to its highest-ever state of perfection. The roles suggested for future sailing vessels are examined, but at present sail lacks the overwhelming advantages necessary to ensure finance for the risky transition from theory to practice.
