AN 'AIRPORT STATION' MARKS HOMESTRETCH FOR MEGAPROJECT
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's $1.9 billion AirTrain light rail project is approaching completion after a delay of nearly a year following an accident. The train relays passengers between Jamaica in the Queens borough and JFK International Airport. Nearing completion is the AirTrain station in Jamaica, which is being built next to a transit hub serving 200,000 daily commuters. The complex has initiated plans for transit-oriented development in the area, with efforts gearing up toward creating a corporate square in Jamaica surrounding the station. The square would include a hotel, mews, and office complexes.
