AAAE AT 75: CULTURE BREEDS SUCCESS

The American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2003. This special section surveys the history, culture, business and operating philosophies that have made the association successful. AAAE currently ranks in the top one percent of professional and trade associations in terms of budget and staff size. Key business policies of the association include cross-subsidizing critical functions such as the legislative effort and AAAE's foundation to ensure they meet core goals; rewarding staff for consistently meeting or exceeding member needs and association goals; and encouraging an entrepreneurial approach to revenue generation. AAAE is also unique in that membership dues make up only a small portion of this revenue. The association provides a variety of non-dues services that revolve around networking and training members and their staffs. A list of major achievements by the AAAE legislative department, an interview with the association president and information on the association's transportation security clearinghouse are included.
