THE COMMERCIAL ASPECT OF THE SOUND INSULATION OF VEHICLES

Legislation which is in being or shortly to be made law will have a marked effect on all aspects of the machinery market. The author states that whether one is involved with the supply of new machinery (the machinery regulations), or with forklift trucks (health and safety at work act) or commercial vehicles and motor cars (proposed eec regulations for 1976), it is certain that the power unit will have to be treated, in some form or another, to reduce its noise level. New and improved methods of palliative treatment, achieved by the utilization of new materials researched by industrialite holdings ltd are described. The palliative pad is a highly damping material made up of a laminate of heavyweight materials and varied glue lines. The maximum thickness of pad allowed is normally only 6 mm, and typical treatments are illustrated and discussed. The question of serviceability, and the problems of associating such palliative treatment with equipment maintenance, cooling, contamination etc are emphasized. /TRRL/
