REDUCTION OF LATERAL REINFORCEMENT IN SEISMIC BEAM-COLUMN CONNECTION VIA APPLICATION OF STEEL FIBERS. DISCUSSION AND CLOSURE
Discussion of an earlier paper with the aforementioned title by Z. Bayasi and M. Gebman, published in this journal (Volume 99, Number 6, November-December 2002), is presented. The discussers feel proper importance was not accorded to strength of concrete and the yield strength of steel in the original paper. Without consideration of the aforesaid parameters, it is quite difficult to comprehend the joint behavior in its entirety and to make a conclusive inference or comparison per se. The discussers also doubt the representation of the original structure into the experimental model of the authors as it sustains no column load and arrested vertical displacement at the beam-column junction. In closure, the authors respond to these points of contention.
