The safe arrival of passengers to their destination is a top priority of JR East. To achieve this target, the company is installing an emergency stop button, an emergency stop alarm, Braille block, platform stop, a fallen passenger detecting mat, etc. in major stations in the metropolitan area. Additionally, the company is developing a system capable of detecting a fallen passenger over almost the entire length of the track, using a stereo image technique employed in ITS technology.
