CONGESTION AND MULTIMODAL TRANSPORT: A SURVEY OF CARGO TRANSPORT OPERATORS IN THE NETHERLANDS. IN: TRANSPORT LOGISTICS
The paper's aim is to assess the impact of congestion on decisions by Dutch companies to switch freight from road to multimodal transport. Considered are the nature, extent, and expectations of congestion in the country along with possible solutions and its impact on mode choice, transport costs and operators' expectations of change. The paper's focus is on issues such as how congestion influences transport companies and shippers of cargo on interurban movements, and whether multimodal transport, particularly road-rail and road-waterway movements present realistic solutions.
