TRAFFIC SENSE - WHICH FACTORS INFLUENCE THE SKILL TO PREDICT THE DEVELOPMENT OF TRAFFIC SCENES?
This paper examines the three factors: driving experience, gender and rule compliance, that are often debated in the literature with respect to the skills to predict the development of traffic scenes. In the study, 36 participants were shown previously filmed scenes of varying traffic complexity, some where traffic rules were violated, the other, they were not. The participants were asked to predict how they thought the scenes would develop. The results showed small if any difference in skill to predict the outcomes between experienced and less experienced drivers.
