N-POINT LINEAR INTERPOLATION OF MOTOR VEHICLE CRUSH PROFILES APPLIED TO VARIOUS FORCE-SHORTENING MODELS
Methodologies presented in this paper increase the precision of the traditional two, four or six-point approximations to a continuum motor vehicle crush profile by presenting the general form of the equally spaced N-point linearly interpolated approximation to a continuum motor vehicle rush profile. This general solution is applied to the various published force-shortening models for the determination of dissipated energy as a function of vehicle shortening. The general solutions for the saturation force, bilinear stiffness and power law models are compared against the constant stiffness force-shortening model. (A)
