GROUND TRANSPORT INTERCHANGE : MANCHESTER AIRPORT WILL BE THE PROUD OWNER OF THE UK'S FIRST PURPOSE-BUILT AIRPORT GROUND TRANSPORT INTERCHANGE
This article reports on the U.K.'s first purpose-built airport ground transport interchange under construction at Manchester Airport. The facility, scheduled to open in spring 2003, will serve road, rail, and tram links to the airport, with walkways linking its three terminals. Some of the main features of the interchange include: a bus and coach station; a multimodal integrated ticket and information desk; an interactive passenger information system for screening bus, coach, rail and tram timetables; future provisions for check-in and remote baggage handling facilities; and shops and catering facilities on two levels.
