REPORTING FROM THE SCENE : AUTOMATED CRASH DOCUMENTATION
This article describes a project which developed the Automated Document of Crash Scenes using Global Positioning System (AutoDOCS- GPS), a product designed to provide accurate, standardized, electronic data, making crash analysis more efficient and increasing road and vehicle safety. The device features high base measurement accuracy, lower costs than alternative systems, procedure guidance and automatic data recording, standardized electronic data, automated computer-aided design (CAD) drawing and text reporting, rapid single investigator operation, and the ability to incorporate supplemental manual or laser measurements. The article describes the system architecture, data flow, AutoDOCS operation, and system test results.
