A GLOBAL TRANSFERABLE MULTI-MODAL DRT APPLICATION
This paper describes a global, modular, open, compatible and transferable multi-modal dispatching and communication application and related service concept that has been successfully implemented in several sites in Finland and in the UK. This DRT (Demand Responsive Transport) application, MobiRouter, was originally developed by Mobisoft Ltd in a research and development project called SAMPO (System for Advanced Management of Public Transport Operations), supported by the European Commission, DGXIII (Telematics). After SAMPO the MobiRouter application has been successfully further developed on commercial basis and transferred to different sites and operational environments. The MobiRouter development work done has followed and taken into account the objectives related to compatibility and transferability set by the European Commission, the emerging new technologies and feedback from the different DRT user categories. In SAMPO the MobiRouter application was used for DRT services in two Finnish sites (Keski-Uusimaa region and Town of Seinjoki). The travel dispatch centre (TDC) was situated in the town of Jyvskyl. The distances between the sites and TDC were over 200 km. Thus it was possible to test and develop 'remote dispatching'.
