URBAN TRANSPORT POLICY - RELATED RESEARCH PROGRAMME SUGGESTIONS
This paper outlines a simple overview of current transport-related issues in urban areas. These issues are grouped under four headings which are accessibility, environmental impact, resource consumption and land use-transport interaction. Potential public policy responses to these issues are grouped into supply-related responses and demand-related responses. The four steps of the traditional urban transport demand modelling process are used to organise the broad types of policy responses. The paper concludes with an identification of the types of research programmes that might be mounted to support urban transport policy formulation. /TRRL/
