SIGCAP: A COMPUTER PROGRAM FOR ASSESSING THE TRAFFIC CAPACITY OF SIGNAL-CONTROLLED ROAD JUNCTIONS

Sigcap is a FORTRAN program which takes as its input the conventional data describing a signal-controlled road junction, the sequence of stages in the signal cycle and the pattern of traffic passing through the junction. The program estimates the practical traffic capacity of the junction, calculates signal timings which maximise that capacity, and provides indications of the amount by which the capacity can be altered by various means which may be available to the traffic engineer. Sigcap is applicable both to isolated junctions and to each of the junctions in a linked signal system or area traffic control scheme, and is intended for everyday use by traffic engineers without recourse to advice from specialists in computing.(a) /TRRL/
