MADISON: IS IT NEXT IN LINE FOR LIGHT RAIL MAKEOVER?
Madison, Wisconsin, USA has passed a resolution endorsing the recommendations of its Transport 2020 Advisory Committee for a first-phase 'Start Up' transit system. The first phase includes park-and-ride, express bus lines and commuter rail. Wisconsin and Southern Railroad has demonstrated the brand-new Colorado Railcar Corporation diesel multiple unit. An Implementation Task Force has been created to move the transit programme towards the Full System. This includes a three-line tramway operating in tandem with the commuter rail line. The tramway will connect the central area and the university. Madison and the surrounding Dane County area are much smaller in population than any other US light rail operation so far.
