PLANNING AND DOING RESEARCH WORK TO IMPROVE THE LIVING STANDARDS OF THE DISABLED AND THE ELDERLY
This paper describes living conditions for disabled and elderly people in African countries, including barriers to using public transport. The author wishes to see changes in legislation to empower these people and remove negative discrimination. He recommends reduced transport fares and increased provision for disabled travellers, improved educational opportunities and accessibility to public buildings. Governments should include the needs of elderly and disabled people in economic planning. These groups of people need a strong organization which they run themselves.
