LEFT TURNING BEHAVIOUR ACROSS A BUS LANE ON THE MAJOR CARRIAGEWAY
Drivers in Glasgow have complained that they have found it difficult to turn left into side roads, across a near-side bus lane, within the space provided beyond the end of the bus lane for this purpose, called the set-back. This paper reports on a project which analysed left turning driver behaviour at five side road junctions on Glasgow's bus priority routes. The basis of a model for the prediction of the optimum bus lane set-back in terms of driver comfort is proposed which is based on a US style 'level of service' approach. (A)
