PW UPDATE : INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
This article relates how public works professionals can gain insights from the U.S. Department of Transportation's recently redesigned website. The main page offers links to state transportation Web sites and the reauthorization of the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century. The subpage on safety links to programs in 19 different DOT departments. The dockets and regulations subpage offers a useful database. Major rulemakings as well as a report on all significant regulations DOT plans to develop or has recently issued are noted on the front page. The Contact Us page pledges a response within 48 hours. The article details other elements of the site that make it better in some ways than many other government sites.
