VIDEO SURVEILLANCE TECHNOLOGY MAKES PARKING FACILITIES MORE SECURE
This article describes recent developments in camera technology that can improve security in indoor and outdoor parking facilities. It suggests beginning with a site evaluation to familiarize a video systems integrator with details such as traffic patterns, operation hours, delivery schedules, location of entry/egress points for vehicles and pedestrians, stairwells, elevators, and traffic ramps. The article also describes appropriate camera equipment for indoor versus outdoor facilities. A new technology, advanced CCD and digital signal processing, allows cameras to adjust to changing light the same way the human eye does. Another new camera feature, called Day/Night, can switch automatically from color operation to black and white when light levels drop. The article also discusses vandal proof cameras and video recorders made specifically for security applications.
