NICE NICHE IN TALLINN : TINY ESTONIAN AIR KEEPS ITS AMBITIONS IN CHECK AND ITS COSTS LOW

This article gives a profile of Estonian Air which has created a successful niche market and continues to post profits as a result of low operating costs and a small route network. Operating out of Estonia's capital, Talinn, Estonia Air was founded as a state-owned airline to replace Aeroflot's local operation after the fall of the Soviet Union. Operating in a primarily short-haul network and faced with European airspace constraints, the airline has benefited from a rising disposable income of potential Estonian airline passengers. A liberal aviation policy in Estonia has already created a potential new competitor for Estonia Air. This has not discouraged the airline, leading it to aggressively pursue relationships with other carriers, as well as join 14 other small carriers in the newly formed All Europe Airpass for travelers from abroad.
