SIMULATION OF BRIDGE-HEAVY ROAD VEHICLE INTERACTION AND ASSESSMENT OF STRUCTURE DURABILITY
The dynamic interaction between bridge structures and road vehicles is an important topic particularly relating to vibrations that can affect the durability of the structure as well as the safety and comfort of passengers. This article addresses the problem by discussing a numerical procedure to simulate the dynamic behavior of the system composed of a steel bridge subjected to loads induced by road vehicles. Comparisons with measurements performed on the structure show that the mathematical model can reproduce with accuracy the dynamic behavior of the system, despite of the uncertainties related to road irregularity and vehicle parameters.
