COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS: THE EYES AND EARS OF YOUR TRANSIT SYSTEM
Public transit uses communication systems for a number of reasons, including passenger information, power system control and monitoring, train management. This paper presents an overview of what communication systems are; reasons for having them; description of the elements of a communication system; and the benefits of a communication system, how it improves passenger service, safety and security. Also described are the differences between rail and bus communication systems. A brief discussion on network speeds and a brief overview of some upcoming advanced technologies to solve communication needs is also provided.
