TRANSPORTATION URBAN PLANNING IN THE CITY OF MAPUTO, MOZAMBIQUE
In the city of Maputo, Mozambique, migration was the primary reason for a rapid increase in population growth rates between 1975-2001. This increase in population growth also had the effect of raising the level of traffic congestion in the city. The problem then became how and by which path to deal with improving public transit in response to this rapid increase in population. It is argued in this paper that in spite of this demographic shift, transport services could be improved upon if public and private sectors cooperate better and complement each other.
