ON THE EXPOSURE OF BUS DRIVERS TO ORGANIC VOLATILE COMPOUNDS AT GUADALAJARA CITY, MEXICO
This research evaluates bus drivers' exposure to organic volatile compounds (VOCs) such as xilenes, toluene, and benzene, as well as nitrous oxides, in Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, Jalisco, Mexico. A set of bus routes and individuals in the general population were randomly monitored in order to compare these measurements to atmospheric ones and discuss limitations of personal monitoring. Passive measurement limitations are also dealt with. It was found that higher values of nitrogen oxides and VOCs were found in buses, followed by levels found in ambulant workers and individuals in commercial locations.
