AIR POLLUTION AND URBAN PLANE OF ROAD TRAFFIC: EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH ABOUT SITUATIONS OF ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH HAZARD
Research into environmental impacts to avoid health hazards to city dwellers must be able to forecast the limit of car traffic volume in transit compatible with the limits of pollution of air established by environmental laws and to forecast the kinds of control techniques that reduce air pollution in the case of traffic volume overcoming the predicted values. To study the possibility of health risks, a 3-month study was conducted in Catania (Italy) of carbon monoxide and particulate levels at 3 traffic sites: an underpass, a roundabout, and an intersection. This paper reports on and discusses the findings from the study.
