SOIL DEFORMATION AND EXCESS PORE PRESSURE FIELD AROUND A CLOSED-ENDED PILE. DISCUSSION AND CLOSURE
A discussion of an earlier paper with the aforementioned title by J.M. Pestana et al., published in this journal (Volume 128, Number 1, January 2002), is provided. The discusser commends the authors for presenting interesting research on the subject of soil deformation and excess pore pressure distributions around a closed-ended pile. The discusser adds to the research on this topic by describing a few cases where positive excess pore pressures were observed during piezocone penetration in very stiff clays and dense clayey sands. In closure, the authors comment on the discusser's work.
