SLIP-FORM PAVING RECORD ACHIEVED ON M69 LEICESTER SECTION

The article describes the paving operation on the 13 km section of the Coventry-Leicester motorway where 1010 M of three lane carriageway was laid in one day. The four machine train was a SGME built Guntert and Zimmerman with associated joint forming and texture-curing spray equipment. Pavement design is discussed, and contraction joints using 400 mm dowel bars are described. Dowel bars were half debonded by use of a pvc sheath. The reinforcement used at transition bays between concrete and fully flexible pavements is illustrated. Control of the concrete mixture is briefly described. The article also contains a brief description of the total of 20 structures on the route comprising 10 side road overbridges, one railway underbridge, two accommodation underbridges, four culvert underbridges and three farm overbridges. /TRRL/
