EXTREME PRESSURE CONCRETE PUMPS

The article discusses the design characteristics required in concrete pumping equipment able to pump a wide range of concrete mixes over increasing distances and heights. While standard machines operate at pressures of up to 50 bar, high-pressure pumps operate at up to 80 bar and extreme-pressure pumps can produce up to 165 bar. Between the two extremes of fines and void content of a concrete mix, the average mix can be pumped at about 30 cu m/h in a 100 mm diameter pipeline over a distance of 100 m against a back pressure of 45 bar. With extreme pressure equipment distances of 600 M and heights of over 180 M have been recorded. In machine design, it is important to avoid change of pipeline section and direction if back pressure and power consumption are to be minimised. /TRRL/
