A NEW TRANSIT LED TO A PRACTICAL USE USING FULLY AUTOMATED PLATOONING BUSES
The Toyota Intelligent Multimode Transit System (IMTS) is innovative passenger transportation in an urban area. The most outstanding feature of the IMTS is its economical efficiency based on the ITS technology. In fact, a system developed for a fully-automated car makes a signaling system for collision prevention much simpler. At a theme park (Awaji Farm-Park) in Japan, we designed the IMTS specifically for the transportation of visitors between the Park's two major areas. This is the first introduction of the IMTS as a practical transport. The primary functions of the buses are automated steering control and platooning. As roadside facilities, a dedicated lane, blocking sections and an automatic train operating system are installed and they were produced up to the railway standards.
