TRAFFIC OPERATIONS HOME

The goal of the Division of Traffic Operations is to maximize traffic efficiency and safety while minimizing inconvenience and congestion on the highway system. This website explains the work of the Division. The website is divided into nine sections: Development Services Intelligent Transportation System(ITS) Development and Support (Office of Electrical and Electronic Systems), Intelligent Transportation System(ITS) Projects and Standards (requires user id and password) Signs & Delineation (Office of Signs, Markings & Permits), System Management Operations (HOV, toll bridges, Smart Traveler), System Management Planning (traffic volumes, strategic plan), Traffic Operations Management Information System (TOMIS), Transportation Safety, and Truck Services. The Office of Development Services contains three branches: Encroachment Permits Branch (right of way utilization), Operational Systems Branch, and Skills Development Branch. The Office of Electrical and Electronic Systems provides leadership and guidance on all transportation electrical and electronic systems relating to the operation of an integrated multi- modal transportation system for the State of California. The Office of Signs, Markings & Permits maintains the California Traffic Manual and develops policy and technical support for that document. Its site also provides miscellaneous other items of general interest such as a Uniform Sign Chart, School Area Pedestrian Safety, and the Flaggers Instruction Manual (April 1999). TOMIS (Traffic Operations Management Information System) is a data reporting system that captures work expenditures for Traffic Operations Program activities. TOMIS enables production of a monthly report comparing workload output (production) to work effort (expenditure). It is a useful tool for Managers Supervisors and Employees in the Traffic Operations Program. The Traffic Safety site provides information on safety investigations improvement programs, safety devices, and traffic safety research. The Office of Truck Services provides webpages regarding oversize/overweight permits, legal truck information, buses and motor homes, weight stations, weight in motion data, weigh station bypass systems (PrePass), truck traffic data, truck stops, rest areas and related links on other state agency websites
