ENERGY CONSERVATION VIA NEW TELECOMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGIES

This paper describes an approach to conserving transportation energy known as Telecoordinated Ride Sharing (TCRS), using two new telecommunications technologies which are linked to each other: Personal Communications Services (PCS) and an Intelligent Network (IN). TCRS involves the use of a telephone to arrange ridesharing in private automobiles, vans, and light trucks, while PCS and IN involve the use of touch-tone input and a matching computer.
