PIPELAY/DERRICK BARGE DESIGNED FOR ROUGH SEAS
SEMAC I, a large semisubmersible pipelay/derrick barge designed specifically for use in rough-sea areas, is now under construction and scheduled for completion in 1976. The barge will be capable of installing large diameter pipelines in water depths exceeding 1200 ft. Modifications can be made to the barge for installing pipelines in even greater water depths when the need arises. This paper describes the barge and discusses reasoning behind selection of the hull and equipment on it.
