PUTTING THE CART BEFORE THE HORSE OR VICE VERSA
Soaring urbanization in the huge Okanagan fruit belt of southern British Columbia is spawning problems germane to its construction backbone--the sand and gravel industry. In the face of steady growth and dwindling aggregate supplies, local governments are now forced to consider the geologic base of the region to ensure adequate reserves. The article discusses those problems arising through increased urbanization, and the action governments are taking to ensure adequate reserves.
