SYNTHETIC FABRICS IN CIVIL AND HYDRAULIC ENGINEERING
Applications of synthetic fabrics in hydraulic filter systems, for example as soil separation or land distribution membranes, or as filters to prevent silting in existing drainage systems, have increased substantially and at a steady rate in Canada in the 1970's. A great variety of industrial fabrics are available to industry and many have quite different characteristics and properties. In the following the need is stressed for a performance-oriented specification guide for synthetic fabrics used in civil or hydraulic engineering projects. Selection criteria are offered for such guides.
