REDUCING GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS FROM U.S. TRANSPORTATION
The report evaluates potential carbon dioxide emission reductions from transportation. Some of the measures considered are: improving energy efficiency; low carbon fuels; increasing transportation systems' operating efficiency; and reducing driving private vehicles. Since principal greenhouse gas (GHG) producer is the transportation sector, highway vehicles should be the primary focus of policies to control GHG emissions. Passenger vehicles and light trucks together account for more than 50% of total transportation sector emissions.
