INTERACTIVE DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR THE DESIGN OF RAPID PUBLIC TRANSIT NETWORKS
The aim of this paper is to devise an automated method for the multi-alignment transit network design problem. The method involves a heuristic that builds upon a single-alignment heuristic developed by Bruno, Gendreau, and Laporte. The algorithm and evaluation measures for a single alignment are first summarized, followed by their extension to the multi-alignment problem. The implementation of the method in a visual interactive decision support system is also illustrated and its advantages to the user are discussed.
