DAILY TRAVELLING VIEWED BY SELF-ORGANIZING MAPS. IN: NEURAL NETWORKS IN TRANSPORT APPLICATIONS
The traditional way to model person traveling is to use four step models. These models generate trips in a study area, distribute these trips between origin and destination zones, divide them between modes, and assign them on different routes. This paper discusses nationwide travel surveys conducted in Finland in order to collect contemporary information about the daily mobility of Finnish people: number of trips, modal split, trip purpose distribution, travel patterns and vehicle utilization.
