POLYUREA: A NEW TECHNOLOGY
New potential uses and actual installation for polyurea are being developed. Market awareness is being targeted toward enhancing and replacing other elasto/plastic materials such as polyurethane, epoxy, methylmethacrylate, vinyl ester, and polyester. Polyurea is being used as a replacement for sheet membranes and hot asphalt waterproofing and dampproofing products in one of the largest infrastructure projects ever undertaken in the United States. Bridge deck overlays, membranes, enddams, sealants, and other DOT applications are being installed in several localities. The expectation is that in the short term polyurea will begin to significantly impact the market in protection of these valuable infrastructure components.
