BROWARD COUNTY ITS OPERATIONS FACILITY MASTER PLAN
The purpose of this feature is to share lessons learned in master planning a transportation management center based on the experiences in Broward County, Florida. The Broward County Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Operations facility will accommodate the following projects: interstate dynamic message sign system, intracoastal waterway dynamic message sign system, Broward County Advanced Traffic Management System, Advanced Traveler Information System services, and additional communication linkages. The project provided an interesting combination of different agencies--with different goals, objectives, and personalities--that came together in developing a facility that establishes the foundation for future ITS growth. Lessons learned included the areas of partnering, system architecture, memorandums of understanding, three-dimensional computer animation, and flexibility.
