MOMENT-CARRYING CAPACITY OF SHORT PILE FOUNDATIONS IN COHESIONLESS SOIL. DISCUSSION AND CLOSURE
A discussion of a paper with the aforementioned title by E.A. Dickin and R.b. Nazir, published in this journal (Volume 125, Number 1, January 1999), is presented. The discussers compared the experimental results of an extensive series of centrifuge model tests conducted by the authors with different methods for the case of e/L = 3 and different ratios of the L/D. In addition to existing methods (Ramelot and Vandeperre, 1950; UIC/ORE, 1957; Broms, 1964; McCorkle, 1969; and Dickin and Wei, 1991), the discussers suggest two theoretical approaches, one of which provides moment values that compare reasonably well with the authors' data. Discussion is followed by closure from the authors.
