The authors describe an automatic vehicle monitoring system which uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver. The system, known as the Intelligent Mobility Enhancement System (TIME.t), is intended to locate accurate vehicle position, thus improving taxi allocation efficiency. The system makes use of a number display service to both locate the customer and find a suitable taxi based on location and fleet condition. Arrival time is then estimated and the information is presented, along with a display, to the driver via voice and text guidance.
