DIVERGENT STANDARDS OF NATIONAL OIL POLLUTION LEGISLATION
A representative cross-section of oil pollution legislation of major maritime countries is reviewed. Emphasis is placed on the limitation and prohibition of intentional oil discharges into the sea, the prevention of oil casualties, the elimination of oil pollution arising from accidents, and the liability for damage caused by pollution. The standards of the various countries are much more uniform than they are divergent due mainly to the precedents set by international conventions.
