USE OF AXLE LOAD INFORMATION IN PAVEMENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
The paper explores the use of axle loading in Pavement Management Systems (PMS). Whereas the influence of axle loading in pavement design and performance is well-defined, this is not so in PMSs. An investigatory analysis was conducted to assess the effect of changes in axle loading on PMS results. The indications are that accurate axle loading is essential as input into a PMS for roads with high traffic (more than 5,000 vpd). More investigations are required to verify and further quantify the preliminary results. (A) For the covering abstract see ITRD E105786.
