URBAN PUBLIC TRANSIT SYSTEM IN THE CITY OF SAO PAULO, BRAZIL: ITS OPERATIONS AND USE BY PEOPLE
This paper describes the current situation of the public transport system in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and its metropolitan area, with an emphasis on current developments. A concise evaluation follows, upon which some critical issues, requiring further consideration, are highlighted. The paper concludes with an overview of a novel medium-capacity transit mode currently under development by SPTrans, the local public transit management agency.
