LEAN CONCRETE ROADBASES - AND WHAT ENGINEERS THINK OF THEM
The author gives an account of a survey carried out among engineers to determine the performance under present traffic of roads with lean concrete bases. A questionnaire was given to a group from the county surveyors' society and their replies analysed. The four sections of the questionnaire, which is reproduced in full, aimed to find the range of experience of the participant, the overall performance of lean concrete road bases, any modifications to the current specification considered desirable and why the use of soil-cement is limited. The main conclusions reached are listed and the author adds several comments on the mix proportions and strength values of lean concrete. /TRRL/
