LESSONS LEARNED ABOUT TRACK SHARING ON A BUSY FREIGHT CORRIDOR
Negotiating shared tracks with freight rail may not be an easy task, but Tri-Rail County Rail Authority in Pompano Beach, Florida is providing an example of how it can be done. The article shows the negotiations that had to be conducted to succeed. Linda Bohlinger, the executive director of Tri-Rail and the architect of the success, believes that federal authorities see Tri-Rail as a sort of test bed for track sharing, as the successful joint agreement she negotiated with corridor users provides a basis for federal testing of advanced signaling to allow higher speeds.
