GEOMEMBRANE WELDING 2000
The previous 10-15 years have produced many changes in the geosynthetics industry. One of the most important is the improvement in geomembrane-welding equipment. This article looks at wedge and extrusion welding equipment, weld testing methods, and the accessory equipment needed for successful welding in the field. Wedge welders have revolutionized the industry, allowing geosynthetic materials to be installed more quickly. However, extrusion welders are still used daily. Over the past 10 years, extrusion welding technology has undergone two major changes: extrusion welders have become lighter and shorter in length, and they are capable of increased machine output. There are two types of testing methods within the industry: nondestructive and destructive. Hot-air welding guns are necessary tools for installation. Silicone rollers are used to help tack material together after using the hot air welder.
