HIGH PERFORMANCE FIRE TRAILER
The fire trailer produced by Gibson Motor and Machine Service Inc. of Lawrence (Massachusetts) for the US Navy and Air Force, is reported to be attracting interest from major oil companies and from governments. Particular attention was aroused by its performance at an oil tank fire in Richmond (Virginia) last year, at which US Navy trailers were loaned to extinguish in three hours flames which regular fire brigade units had battled for fourteen hours. The Gibson trailer holds some 5,000 US galls of water plus 800 US galls of foam concentrate; its high-velocity "cannon" has a discharge range of up to 92 m (300 ft). The vehicle is also capable of applying a 7.6 (25 ft) wide carpet of foam up to 1,200 m (0.75 mi) long on runways for emergency-landing fire protection.
