RAIL CORRUGATION: CAUSES AND CURES
Rail corrugation generates noise, causes rough riding and reduces the life of track and vehicle components on all types of railway. The diversity of the nature of rail corrugation is great. Rail grinding remains the single, most widely used, effective, and versatile treatment for corrugation. Any means of reducing the tractive force exerted by vehicles, for curving or otherwise, is also an unmitigated good, and not only for corrugation. Reduction of dynamic loading by whatever means, but particularly with resilient railpads, is also desirable.
